North Carolina’s Northeast Partnership announced today that
Environmental Networks International (ENI), Inc., of Newton Center, MA,
a Boston suburb, will establish a Southeast Regional Office in Edenton,
NC. It is ENI’s ultimate interest to establish Edenton as its corporate
headquarters. In making this announcement, Partnership Chairman, Bob
Spivey spoke of the positive impact this project would have on Edenton
and the Northeast Region. Spivey commented, ``Today is a great day for
Edenton and all of Northeast North Carolina. The location of ENI to our
region means we are turning the corner and capable of recruiting information
technology companies to this region.'' Spivey added, ``ENI made the decision
to locate in Edenton in large part because the community wanted them here.
The Edenton-Chowan Development Corporation, the Town of Edenton, and Chowan
County worked together with the Northeast Partnership to put together an
attractive relocation package.''
ENI develops software tools that automate procurement, bidding, and
management processes between buyers and sellers in order to reduce buyer/seller
costs by up to 55%. ``The opportunity for growth through our relocation to
North Carolina is immense,'' said ENI’s founder, Tully Ryan. ``While we have
achieved success operating in geographically dispersed locations over the
past three years, a central location in Edenton will bring our team together
toward new accomplishments and a higher return on investment.''
ENI was originally founded in 1995 as a North Carolina services company
for subcontracting firms in the engineering/construction industry. The
organization was reorganized as a software firm in 1999 and has established
itself as a leader in procurement and workflow automation software development
for the Architectural and engineering, environmental engineering/construction,
waste, utility and public sectors. ENI’s workflow management tools cut the
time and costs associated with procurement administration by up to 55%.
``This commitment by ENI means good business for ENI and good economics
for the communities surrounding Edenton,'' said Rick Watson, President and
CEO of North Carolina’s Northeast Partnership. ``By providing software to a
client list that includes municipalities, the American Water Works Association
(AWWA) and its utility members--CH2M HILL, and Shaw E&I--ENI demonstrates that
environmental and economic goals go hand in hand.''
A major contributor to the Northeast Partnership’s recruitment efforts
is its private sector arm, the Northeast Committee of 1000. Chaired by John
Pace of BB&T in Elizabeth City, the Committee of 1000 plays a vital role in
supporting business development in Northeastern North Carolina. According to
John Pace, the ENI announcement is a sign of things to come. Pace stated,
``ENI is the type of company that is perfect for the Northeast Region.
With our superb quality of life, we can attract these types of companies
that are tired of the ``rat race'' found in large metropolitan areas.''
Pace added, ``We believe that ENI sets the trend for future recruitment of
information technology companies.''
ENI’s online and PC-based procurement software has garnered support
by bringing industries together without charging web-based transaction fees.
Registered buyers can take advantage of advanced search and communication
capabilities for sourcing, pre-qualifying, and soliciting proposals/quotes
from suppliers for an annual licensing fee. Suppliers improve client service,
as well as enhance their marketing and procurement-related communications via
a nominal subscription.
With more than $26 million in contract activity a month from engineering,
construction, water industry, and municipal buyers, ENI develops private-label
and web-based procurement systems that streamline purchasing and sales
activity costs. ENI software has benefited users from municipalities to
architecture/engineering firms in the construction/environmental industry
(www.eni-net.com) to water/wastewater
utilities (www.efficientutilities.com),
and their suppliers.
ENI has also developed unique patent-pending artificial intelligence
software that has been integrated to streamline procurement and associated
workflow. ENI combines industry knowledge, procurement expertise, and a
proven IT platform to provide comprehensive procurement and business software
to the A&E, construction, utility, waste and public sectors.
